“Let me guess, y’all can’t afford it? Okay, look, let us pay for it—”

“Kwame, no. I don’t need your help. Plus, we already ate, alright? Let’s just chill another time,” Rumi sighed.

I was glad she reunited with her sister, but this uppity bitch been taking shots at me and her since she came back to town. From what I could see and what she told me, they barely ever got along. Now I see what she meant. The past few weeks, she been trying to come around and act all high and mighty and shit.

I know she be telling her I was not good enough for her and shit. I been trying to be nice and keep my mouth shut but, today, I was tired, I had a headache, and she was pushing it. We just ran into her and her dude at Walmart, and they trying to talk us into going to some expensive ass restaurant to eat some shit that neither one of us really eat in the first place. Bitch be overstepping her boundaries for real. I didn’t even know what she was doing over here on this side of town; it’s a Walmart on the white side shit.

“No, it’s no problem. Look, let us cover it—”

“Nah bruh, we good. Like Rumi said, we already ate anyway,” I said, turning down old boy’s offer. Her sister’s face twisted as she rolled her eyes.

“Y’all ate what though, like McDonald’s?” she asked, then started laughing like some shit was funny.

“Man, you always got some low blows to dish out, don’t you?” I shot.

“Who’s throwing low blows? I only speak facts. No worries though, I already told her what to expect dating someone like you. It’s just a shame she never eats anywhere other than fast food or two for six restaurants or Chilis.”

“Okay Kwame, you need to chill—”

“Nah, nah, let her speak; she obviously has a lot to say outta that big mouth of hers!” I interrupted, as Rumi tried to cool shit.

“Excuse you? Rumi, is he usually this rude too?”

“I’m only rude to muhfuckas who constantly put me down or got shit to say slick out they mouth like you!”

“Well, excuse me for wanting to see my sister have some standards! All she tends to date is street thugs and broke ass hood boys. That’s exactly why she never gets anywhere now,” she scoffed.

“You know what? Ya bougie ass wanna come around acting like you give a fuck about her so bad all of a sudden! If you cared so much, then why’d you leave her and run off, barely even checking in to see if she needed anything, huh? You living all good, but your sister can’t even get some words of encouragement along the way! Yeah, I know the story. You never been there for her, so why you wanna step in now?” I spat.

“Negro, please! You know nothing about me or our relationship, so you need to mind your own business!” she huffed, getting in my face.
